Red Hots

Summertime has been blistering hot this year. Painting out of doors was unappealing, but I ventured as far as the back yard and sat down in front of these two potted plants. I was one step away from the back door - how bad could it be?

My inspiration was obvious – red plants and hot weather. I blocked in the initial painting with values of red. A fun no-risk idea that could be thrown out on my way back inside if I couldn’t take the heat.

The day warmed up as the painting progressed and I rushed to get as much finished as I could before retreating. Red Hots was mostly done before I put it up on my studio easel for some final touches.
